Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo

Last update:

In football conversations usually arises the discussion over who is better… if Leo Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo. Any Google search yields hundreds of results on “Messi vs Ronaldo” or “Cristiano Ronaldo vs Messi”. Assuming that we will always make a subjective analysis, based on our personal preferences, I have made this comparison, as a statistic, rigorous and totally objective analysis, in which I will confront their individual and collective achievements. I have incorporated an aspect that many people apply: the comparison of the two while Cristiano Ronaldo played for Real Madrid (2009 to 2018).

Did you notice that Ronaldo has scored 450 goals in 438 games in laliga….and messi has scored the 618 goals in 705 games in laliga. Ronaldo in Spain only has more goals stats in the short while he’s been in laliga than messi…. Simply put if Ronaldo has has been in Spain or any other team as long as messi has been in barca then messi would not even get close to him. Cr7 is the GOAT 🐐

CR arrived Spain as a 24 years-old grown adult player. Golden boot, superstar. His 438 games are 438 star player games.

Messi started playing at Barcelona when he was 17 years old. He started a lot of games from the bench. He had to win his place in a starting XI with Eto’o, Giuly, Ronaldinho, etc.

You can’t compare 438 games from an adult grown star player with 705 games that are Messi’s entire career, since he was a youngster until now.

Take a look at what Messi did from his 24 until his 31. This would give you a better point of view.

You have to think that, if Cristiano had played always in Spain, he had also have to start as a youngster, from the bench, fighting for a place with superstar strikers.

GOAT is about the best player, which involves more than one aspect of the game. Look at their contribution to their respective team and consider both goals and assists. In addition to scoring at a faster rate, Messi is contributing far more in assisting his team mates to score goals also. In otherwords he is doing more playing of the game than Ronaldo even when Ronaldo has logged more time on the field, which suggests that he is also more effective. 146 more games for a paltry 24 more goals is simply mediocre for the standard of the GOAT. Ronaldo is a great striker, but that is all he is. Messi is far more than just a striker who finishes the attacking work of the midfielders. He functions as the playmaker, many times as a midfielder, and he does as good a job as Ronaldo as the striker. I think playing the game involves more than just scoring goals. If that was the case, the goal keeper and the defenders could never be considered great players. If a manager had to choose between the two, Messi is a far more valuable prospect.

Subtract (don’t compute) from Messi his first 323 games for Barcelona (club games). That is the amount of games cry7 has experienced in Sporting and MU before arriving in Spain. That way, you will have a more fair comparison. The problem is that you will end up with only 383 games for Messi (and cry7 has 438 for RM). Another way to do it, although not as fair, is to compute only the last 438 games of Messi (for Barsa). Or, you can compare Messi’s last 383 games for Barsa to cry7’s first 383 ones for RM. Or… (still unfair to Messi), just the games during the period both overlapped in La Liga (438).

As Michel pointed out, you are comparing the performance of an already grown all-star (cry7 as he arrived at RM) to the performance of a mixture between a 17-year-old kid (Messi at his beginnings) and the Messi today (i.e. you are averaging Messi down).

Just by taking a look at their face to face club games, you will see that Messi scored 17% more goals and in addition, provided 1000% more assists. Messi scores more than cry7 (more productive at goal scoring) and assists and passes infinitely more (playmaker). Messi is a much superior player. By far.

Lol, Messi already proven huge damage to epl teams with 4 goals against arsenal. Leo Messi, top UCL scorer vs English clubs. Leo Messi has scored 106 goals in the UEFA Champions League and a massive 22 of those have been scored against English teams. He’s far and away the player who has dished out the most damage to Premiership clubs over the year.

So You are comparing years to 9 years. From 2009 to 2017 MESSI HAD MORE GOALS and has same GOAL/GAME RATIO. THE time of RIVALRY. BESIDES, MESSI has More ASSISTS, MORE DRIBBLES, MORE CHANCE CREATED, MORE 3RD PASS leads to Goals, More Through Ball.
THIS MAKES MESSI 1000 times Better than Ronaldo. Cause MESSI is the BEAT FINISHER, DRIBBLER AND PLAYMAKER. Plus BEST FREEKICK taker(CONVERSION RATE much higher than Ronaldo). Plus MESSI scores FROM OPEN PLAY. RONALDO scores TAPINS, mostly Penalties.
MESSI IS THE GOAT, not only that if we CONSIDER Ronaldo as 2nd, STILL MESSI is 1000 times better than Ronaldo.
